LisPi@carnage4life That's just a function of current digital storage media. Digitalization itself has nothing to do with it.
Punched paper/cardboard cards or tape would be able to survive for centuries with adequate storage just fine.
Building an optical reader for such is also what I'd consider a first-year electronics project.
