The #39c3 "style guide" is totally geared towards animations.

If you build something cool with animations, PLEASE offer a way to pause the movements. Even better: only start them once the user requests it.
Otherwise, this can be a real problem for people who suffer from motion sickness.
(You could check for `prefers-reduced-motion` and let CSS handle it, but since many people are unfamiliar with these OS/browser settings, a simple button/toggle would be better.)
#Accessibility ftw
#PukeLessWeb

Soooo, regarding #PukeLessWeb: Lina and I will do our accessibility workshop regarding motion sickness (and the bigger picture: accessibility beyond compliance) @ #NextcloudConf25.

We'll be in room Wintergarten (-1) from 14:30 on.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to find a description of the interactive WS. If you'd like to know what it's about: Take a look at https://pretalx.c3voc.de/chaos-feminist-convention-2025/talk/MDLEVB/

Earning my stars at @njan 's #PukeLessWeb workshop at #CFC25

What is hard to convey in one toot but very important to us: We talk about one SPECIFIC issue (motion sickness) but what we're actually trying to also raise awareness about is

- "new" accessibility issues that don't have much spotlight or solutions yet

- the fact that your users might be affected by something but don't know about it and thus will not use a more accessible versions of your website that only appears when you toggle some magic settings somewhere in your browser/OS

#PukeLessWeb

My colleague and I will also be holding our super interactive and fun #accessibility workshop "Let's build web experiences that don't make people puke".

It's <10min introduction and then just interactive stations to learn about motion sickness and to help come up with ideas how we can make the web less nauseating.

This WS is really for everyone(!), not just for devs or designers.

Let's build web experiences that don't make people puke. Chaos Feminist Convention

🎢 An actually interactive accessibility workshop about motion sickness We show you the problem and current solutions, let's see if we find even better ones.

Woohoo,

we'll be at #CFC25 with our interactive Motion Sickness Workshop.
(the timeslot is still tba, somewhen on Friday or Saturday).
Come around, it's a lot of fun :)
Explore 5 stations at your own pace, learn what motion sickness is, how it feels, how it can affect business and what can be done to prevent websites from triggering motion sickness in its users (and developers 😅).
And lastly: Come up with examples and even better solutions.

Awww! We will have our #MotionSickness related Accessibility workshop "tomorrow" (Friday at 9am =.=) at #BoosterConf... and sessionize, the software they used for speaker relations, generated this cute banner to share.
Many 90s-web-vibes <3

Also we finally agreed on a hashtag for all things regarding motion-sickness-safe websites: #PukeLessWeb.

Waaaay shorter than our old workshop hashtags :)

Some results from our motion sickness workshop (we had sooo much fun and learned so much from the attendees!! ) and a link to many of our sources:

Very simplified alt text due to character limit and complexity.
