The Libs just lost a "safe" seat they had held since 1993.

If the electorate is really tired of PMJT then the cons will likely form the next government and hence defund the CBC.

I'm not convinced that the Libs could win in 2025 even with a different leader.

It is time to start making plans for #PublicRadioCanada that is funded by public donations and not government.

2024 Toronto—St. Paul's federal by-election - Wikipedia

#PublicRadioCanada

$100M a year in listener funding represents about one million people each donating $100 per year.
That's a big ask in tight economic times like the present.

It seems like a formidable mountain to climb.
However doing nothing might doom future generations to a massive AI generated sh*t-storm of misinformation.

We are going to need trusted people to explain things now and especially in the near future.

Any help would be greating appreciated.

I'm not sure what one person with an idea can accomplish.
TV might cost too much but it might be possible to fund a national radio service (also available via internet).

#PublicRadioCanada might take thousands of volunteers just to get started.

My hopes:
- no corporate sponsors
- fee-free to the entire world
- listener funding only

How does one convince enough Canadians to donate something like $100M a year to maintain minimal national and local news as well as arts and culture?

The federal polls are not looking good for anyone but right-wingers here in Canada which means that sometime in 2026 (spring budget?) our only remianing public broadcaster, the CBC, will be defunded by PP and the cons.

IMO it is well past time to start planning for a 100% people-donation-funded public radio network in Canada.

Ideas from all over the world would be welcome at this point.

This is so much that needs to be done.

Suggesting #PublicRadioCanada to share ideas.

Clarification: I would not lose any sleep if the #RolexWearingSocialist became PM of Canada but I suspect I'd have better odds at winning the lottery (7 numbers out of 49).

If PP wins then it's another four years of passing bricks (just like 2011 to 2015) which is not good for the GI tract.
Would there be a Ministry of Misinformation (official title would be different)?

Of course it would help if #PublicRadioCanada was available by then so that at least we would know the truth.

The next Fed election will be messy and almost impossible to predict at this point.
It could be a situation comparable to the 2016 POTUS election where voters could choose between HRC and DJT.
The least despicable person does not always win.

Seems doubtful that the #RolexWearingSocialist could become PM.

There is still time for a group to form an alternative party to the Cons that is not full of right-wing extremists.
The purple party is more extreme.

Start planning for #PublicRadioCanada

Possible CBC outcomes (on or before 2025)
1 PP wins majority - CBC gets crushed

2 PP wins minority - puts CBC crush laws into omnibus budget bill
Big unknown is number of PQ MPs
Would Libs vote it down to trigger election?
NDP would be broke - Lib majority in next election?

3 PP comes in 2nd place - CBC safe until following election.
Would Cons sack PP and drop future plans to crush CBC?

Any way it is better to start planning for #PublicRadioCanada now while there is still time.

So maybe $100M annually for a bare-bones #PublicRadioCanada service?

More than likely it might cost $200M (Cdn) annually for such a service which must be provided in both official languages.

Will PP/Cons tell Canadians that #PublicRadio is not worth $200M annually ($5 per Canadian per year)?

IMO it's not about money but more likely about enabling certain groups to promote right-wing ideology which would be much easier without the CBC.

It makes me want to puke.

#RadioNewZealand receives $42.606 million (NZD) annually for its operating costs.

It might cost $36M Cdn to fund #PublicRadioCanada

Now Canada would need many more radio transmitters so round up the estimate to $50M and double it to include French programming for $100M Cdn annually.

If 1 million Canadians donated $100.00 annually then the service could be funded without gov money. #NotGoingToHappen?
It's an NPR-style funding model - NPR just laid of many employees.

RNZ

New Zealand's own world-class public broadcaster.

I'm not sure how much time the CBC has left.
The minority government can fall at anytime.
The next election must be called by the fall of 2025.
If the right-wingers win in 2025 then expect a spring 2026 budget (3 years away).
There's a petition on their web site to defund the CBC.
If the Libs survive then the Cons will likely win the election after that.
Eventually the CBC will be crushed to the horror of so many.
Now is the time to start organizing #PublicRadioCanada
