Realise there is a lot of sh1t happening in the world but wanted to share a bit of fun stuff that happened today. We usually do #PublicLivingRoom events twice a week at our local Quakers. Due to building work we moved into the theatre opposite for a change and it was lovely to meet some different people. The highlight was watching them trying to teach each other Mexican Train which is a domino game. I'm not convinced any of them know the rules but they enjoyed themselves anyway. ๐Ÿ˜†
If you are in a position to support local organisations doing good work then please #donate your time or money.. it makes a huge difference. Have look at what #Charity #CommunityBusiness or church or other smaller groups are actually doing where you live - it rarely is the large national charities who advertise on TV or online that do the real work. There are various online fundraising websites and most will add gift aid if you are a UK tax payer.. a blatant plug for our #CommunityFridge and #PublicLivingRoom but other good causes are available! https://www.goodhub.com/go/settle-community-and-business-hub
Just had a hilarious hour playing bingo at our #PublicLivingRoom. All our regular visitors love a game and get very competitive. Our oldest visitor won today on his 91st birthday and was very pleased with his prize - a packet of posh biscuits! #SimplePleasures
๐Ÿšชโœจ Welcome to the "public living room" experiment, where the internet's collective weirdness is on full displayโ€”because who doesn't want their virtual space redecorated by the chaos of strangers? ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ๐Ÿฅณ It's a bit like opening a community fridge, but instead of leftovers, you get an infinite supply of surreal and absurd junk. ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฆ„

THE ROOM

Running the #CommunityFridge means sometimes having lots of flowers to re-home .. had 12 bunches today so several of our regulars took one home from our #PublicLivingRoom. I gave some to random strangers in the car park and the last bunch went to one of the women in the launderette near our office. Saw her going home later grinning while clutching her flowers. #RandomActOfKindness ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ˜ƒ
Wondering if anyone has done a #Charity or #CommunityProject #BingoCard .. this week .. as well as doing my day job have fixed an older person's gas boiler, cleaned up a flat and done laundry for someone in hospital. Also had a conversation with local police about their struggles trying to find emergency housing for some people who are temporarily in a very unsuitable caravan. Had 2 staff unable to get in due to snow and ice so I've also been cooking at our #PublicLivingRoom. Pondering this is actually a relatively quiet week!
@Havant_Enviro likewise..similar uninformed and completely bonkers conversations occured on election day at our #PublicLivingRoom in #Settle - most of our lot voted Labour or Green and vibe in the room very anti Tory. One old chap said David Curry was a crap MP and never did anything - which was true but Julian Smith has been our MP since 2010. Lots of talk about voting Labour to get Tories out but some worried Starmer was going to tax their pensions and take away their winter fuel allowance ..no idea where that came from. Julian Smith still won here but Labour very close 2nd and majority slashed from 24000 to 1650.
My favourite thing about #elections is that we run a #PublicLivingRoom on Thursdays at the #Quakers which is dead opposite the polling station so will get to see lots of fabulous #DogsAtPollingStations .. let's make that hashtag busy tomorrow folks ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿพ
Strangely.. being offered 72 lettuces ๐Ÿฅฌ was not the largest or strangest #CommunityFridge donation we have received. The week before Christmas we collected 93 cauliflowers from #Booths - some were badly frost damaged and went to feed lots of chickens..the rest were swiftly delivered to various local charities and businesses and used to make large amounts of soup and cauliflower cheese for our #PublicLivingRoom and #CommunityFridge
