American Library Assoc. Report - #Texas Had Most #Book Challenges #Books are not the sole target of attacks orchestrated by #conservative parent groups and #rightwing #media. Both #school and #PublicLibrarians are increasingly in the crosshairs of conservative groups during book challenges and subject to defamatory name-calling, #onlineharassment, #socialmedia attacks, and #doxxing, as well as direct #threats to their #safety, their #employment, and their very #liberty https://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/by-the-numbers
Censorship by the Numbers

ALA compiles data on book challenges from reports filed by library professionals in the field and from news stories published throughout the United States. Because many book challenges are not reported to the ALA or covered by the press, the 2022 data compiled by ALA represents a snapshot of book censorship throughout 2022. A challenge to a book may be resolved in favor of retaining the book in the collection, or it can result in a book being restricted or withdrawn from the library.Every year, the American Library Association compiles a list of the Top Ten Most Frequently Challenged Books, using its database and media reports.

In the true spirit of the holiday season, HR sent out an email today saying that if we close for weather on a day when staff have sick or vacation time previously planned, they will still be docked the time off instead of letting them have the day like everyone else.

The closure notice went out a few hours later for weather tomorrow.

It's a new rule, unnecessary, and it's right before a lot of our staff--who are underpaid and exhausted--take time off for Christmas.

Yes, this shite-faced man pulls crap like this all the time.

Spent the last half hour of my day at work thinking about new programming. Thematic 3 month book club with a fiction, nonfiction, and then activity (craft, lecture, tour).

I had an established but dying book club gifted to me and I need to change it so I actually enjoy it.

Have any #PublicLibrarians done something like this for their adult patrons? #Libraries #BookClub
