If you follow any creative types at all & wonder why they never stop talking about pre-orders, upcoming shows, or what products (cards, calendars, tea towels, etc.) from their art they have, it's because being a creative is HARD. It is almost impossible for any to actually make a living from it; most are just trying to make enough to pay for their basic art expenses, & they have a day job for rent & food.
Don't make it even harder by stealing from them. Besides the monetary theft, it is utterly demoralizing & they simply don't create any more.
If you have so much burning social justice fire in you, campaign for artists' rights. Demand purchase & permanent ownership of art. Buy from artists directly. Use your library! (Libraries are also in trouble & need the real or virtual foot traffic to prove they are necessary to get funding.) Campaign for #PLR (#PublicLendingRights) in your country. (This means the library system pays an author a kind of royalty when their books are lent. Some authors make more in PLR fees than actual royalties. At least 35 countries do this.) Ask about inter-library loans, or loans from universities even if you're not a student.
I don't know how to explain or convince you we are to care for one another if you don't already believe that. But if you are only motivated by self-interest, then be aware at least some piracy sites inject malware into their downloads.
(What, you're shocked? They are THIEVES; did you really expect them to have honour?)
