About $95 million in Missouri marijuana-tax revenue for veterans services, public defenders and drug-addiction treatment programs sat unspent at the end of the last fiscal year.

#PublicDefenders are chronically overworked in the US, as the government has never adequately funded them as required by law. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1963 the #SCOTUS ruled that states have a constitutional obligation to provide counsel to those who cannot afford hiring a lawyer.

If you cannot keep enough #PublicDefenders to run your #Legal system, maybe you should have less #laws that you #prosecute as #criminal offenses.

...just my opinion though.

Laws cost resources y'all. See #libertarian / #minarchist / #anarchist principles or whatever.

Too many people forget that criminal defense attorneys, especially public defenders, are good people who are willing to stand up to injustice and give their clients the best representation possible even when they are guilty.

The #PublicDefenders job is to defend, because no decent society would permit the government to imprison anyone without proving his or her guilt. These lawyers are absolutely essential to the so-called "justice" system. I think more people should recognize that.

American Bar Association finds Oregon has just 1/3 of needed public defenders
