This beautiful bird is seriously endangered and has benefited from a period of protection in the European Union (International single species action plan for the conservation of the European turtle-dove Streptopelia turtur, 2018 to 2028). Unfortunately, in 2025, the EU lifted the ban on hunting turtle doves in Spain, France, and Italy—a disgrace. This photograph was also taken with my dream lens, lent to me by Ángel Lorenzo: the Zuiko ED 150-400 ƒ4.5 Pro.
