A final #foraging count from one week in the dunes: 1.5 gal (5.6 L) of wild cranberries, but zero, as in not a single beach plum (whereas last year in the same location I harvested 16 lb of beach plums). If I were still a mushroomer, there would be a hundred pounds of boletes. #ptown #ProvinceLands #NationalSeashore #Cranberries #BeachPlums #mushrooms
Images from today's foraging in The Province Lands. Not a bad day for cranberries, and if I was still a mushroomer, there would not be enough baskets for what could be harvested. #dunes #capecod #ProvinceLands #fungi
Many leaves of the wild cranberries are red this time of year. This bog is from Saturday's hike thru The Province Lands. #cranberry #bog #ProvinceLands #PTown
I hiked today, or rather random walked thru the land of sand, dunes, lichens, and pines. First time #hiking in forever. #getoutside #ProvinceLands #Provincetown #PTown
Reindeer lichen in the dunes. First, the typical colony, in the sand under an oak tree. Then a little closer look and we see that wonderful but strange green color. Finally, very close, it looks extraterrestrial, and wow, there are little purple dots deep inside that colony. #lichen #dunes #ProvinceLands #PtownArtists #GetOutside

Went out to go to Lighthouse but misjudged the tide and no way to get across water, so spent awhile just sitting on hillside enjoying sun, then picked a few cranberries.

Ok, no cranberries this afternoon because my favorite bog was flooded. But, I spotted beach plum drops, all dried, of course, but where there are drops, it is worth a closer look.

left picture: the terrible, pitiful plants that had fruit

middle picture: descent plums still on very scrubby plants

right picture: 795 cleaned beach plums as a total harvest today! So very happy!
