Adopt WEBCAT for all web-based applications

I have created a new feature request on Proton’s UserVoice and I would like to share it here with the wider community.

Adopt WEBCAT for all web-based applications

The whole existence of Proton revolves around a trustworthy, easy-to-use suite of end-to-end encrypted applications. But one thing is to use Proton’s digitally signed mobile applications, another is to use Proton’s web-based applications.

So I suggest the early adoption of WEBCAT , a Freedom of the Press Foundation project currently in alpha.

From their website:

The Problem

Websites can change their code at any time, and HTTPS alone does not guarantee that every user receives the same, intended web application. WEBCAT addresses this by enabling signed delivery and transparency log–backed distribution of participating web applications, allowing end users to verify exactly what they received from a website.

WEBCAT’s developers are currently, as of March 2026, asking for developers and webmasters to join the alpha tests.

From the alpha announcement:

We especially want feedback from teams who want to use WEBCAT, but find that the set of web application features supported by WEBCAT are not sufficient for their use case. WEBCAT has already expanded the features it supports in response to such feedback, and we want to continue doing so.

Proton

So, it seems @protonprivacy is down...

What a shame they won't even see this post, since they've left #Mastodon to "consolidate" their social media presence.

Proton left Mastodon... - Lemmy

Instead of leaving Xitter, they left Mastodon. Proton’s trend is not inspiring confidence and this feels like another step backwards.

So @protonprivacy has left #Mastodon and the #Fediverse without even an official announcement. What a shame!

I suggest voting on the following Proton's UserVoice idea I have just created. This may be the only way of getting their attention.

Reactivate Proton's Mastodon account!

What a shame deactivating Proton's Mastodon account without any announcement, but only a change on the account's description!

As a long-time @protonprivacy user and Proton Unlimited subscriber, I am really disappointed by the limitation imposed on the sharing of Proton Pass vaults with other Proton Free users. Quite limited for an unlimited plan.

https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/953584-proton-pass/suggestions/49048514-allow-proton-unlimited-users-to-share-proton-pass

#Proton #ProtonSuite #ProtonPass #ProtonUnlimited

Allow Proton Unlimited users to share Proton Pass vaults with more than two Proton Free users

Proton Pass for Proton Unlimited users is currently advertised as allowing "Securely share vaults with other Proton Pass users" with "10 others". But if the other Proton Pass users are on Proton Free accounts, there is actually another limitation of only two Proton Free users per shared vault. Even though a Proton Unlimited user can send share invitations to more that two Proton Free users, after the second Free user accepts their invitation, any other Free user receives an error message stating "This vault has reached the limit of users", which is not true. That is not what is being advertised by Proton at all. According to the Pricing page and to the documentation, there are no such restrictions. Enforcing such restrictions is misleading. Moreover, such restrictions make no sense at all. Increased sharing limits for vaults is a Proton Unlimited feature, independent of other users' business relationships with Proton. Please consider lifting this limitation or rephrasing what is being advertised for Proton Unlimited users. For instance, it would be more accurate as "Any paid Proton Pass plan: Create and share up to 50 vaults, with up to 10 users per vault (including yourself and limited to two Proton Free users)".

@bjonte I've migrated away from Google to #protonsuite . I still leave my Google account open for "stray" emails from accounts that I forgot to change. Just as well, as I caught one just recently.

My thinking behind it was that I'd rather jump from Google than be pushed someday. Heard so many tales of woe from people that lost access to their Google products with no way of contacting anyone to plead their case.
