"This mural was inspired by the surrounding landscape and wildlife, featuring Motukokako (also fondly known as the Hole in the Rock), flying fish, Cape Brett, pohutukawa, kawakawa, clematis and the rare and incredibly special Kokako." @erikapearce.artist March 17, 2020

Paihia Sea Wall Mural by New Zealand artist Erika Pearce @erikapearce.artist at 124 Marsden Road, Paihia, Bay of Islands, New Zealand in April 2019. Photos taken February 2025.

"Located on the bluff in Paihia, just before Te Ti Bay, the beach location required some serious logistics! I painted for 6 days straight, from sunrise to sunset, moving the lift off the beach at every high tide. On completion of the mural, local Iwi hosted a sunrise blessing with a great turn out from the community."

"We are surrounded by ocean. Where ever you are in Aotearoa, you are not much more than an hours drive to the coast. The health of our people depends on the health of the ocean. Paihia is one of those special places where people come from all over the world to connect with and play in the surrounding waters. We are so blessed, let's work together so future generations will be able to enjoy it too." @erikapearce.artist May 17, 2019

Science mission finds glimmer of hope for marine biodiversity in ocean depths off Comoros http://newsfeed.facilit8.network/TPJh6k #MarineBiodiversity #OceanConservation #COP30 #ClimateAction #ProtectOurOceans

"I'm not going to retire until I hit a million corals planted back on the reef. With the right conditions, we can do it in the next 3-5 years." ~ David Vaughan - Marine Biologist

Saving Coral Reefs One Coral At A Time

YouTube
It was recently confirmed our oceans are dying at a faster rate than expected. Yet there's serious lack of action from global leaders, organizations and governments to tackle this alarming issue. It's extremely sad that our next generations will never experience the oceans and marinelife that we have had pleasure to witness. Warm-water coral reefs are collapsing. They're vital to 25% of all ocean life and billions of peoples living at coastal communities.

Our oceans are in serious trouble.
Overfishing, pollution, and plastic waste are putting sea life and coastal communities at risk. Fish populations are shrinking, dead zones are spreading, and plastic in the sea could double by 2040. Some “bioplastics” may even be more harmful to marine life. Without urgent action, we risk losing vital ecosystems that feed millions. #ProtectOurOceans #nature #marinelife
