Stone oaks, centuries-old trees that have evolved to endure drought and poor soils, yet climate change is now overwhelming their adaptations. Water stress, pathogens, and fire are increasing mortality, threatening these protected trees and the biodiversity they shelter. In a rapidly changing climate, centuries of adaptation are no longer enough.

Each germinated seed in this image is part of our rewilding effort, a careful attempt to support a species at risk. The success rate is low, but we keep planting, nurturing, and trying.
