Grand Hotel of Balbec. Waking up just now and still captured by a dream, Marcel has to confront the hotel servant.
Read this brilliant piece in the original eBook - exactly positioned - works on phones - just one click away (You can at any time go to the beginning and read the whole book. That's the plan.)
Marcel is in love with Albertine. But Albertine loves girls. Marcel is convinced of it. Before he started dating her, she used to mimic the behavior of lesbians. She does not do that anymore. Now, when people talk about "girls of bad style", she pretends not to hear it.

"At Saint-Pierre-des-Ifs we were joined by a glorious girl. I could not tear my eyes from her magnolia skin, her dark eyes, her bold and admirable outlines."
As mentioned⬆above: post-WW1 Proust is the best Proust. The following link will take you to a paragraph deep inside the book 'Sodome et Gomorrhe' (Vol4, 1921). If you like it, you can read the whole thing:

...here another way of looking at this:
The best parts of Proust's Recherche are: vol 2 (part 2), vol 4, 5 and 6. If you have read vol 1 and didn't like it too much, then next time start with vol 2 chap 2 and continue with vol 4. Trust me on this!
Here is the thing: in 1912/1913 something happened to #Proust . It made him a much better author. The volumes I ask you to read were all written after 1913 (see: yellow band). Also note: his books were totally not released in the order written.
