Have you heard of Russ Cook which is doing a similar thing, running from the most southern part of Africa to the northern most part? Currently he's running through the Algerian desert.

Unsurprisingly, the police harassed Helou and his group during the entire trip for mingling with the locals freely outside the bubble of large tour buses and resorts.
