This simple, no-nonsense article from @paige really helps answer the most common ridicule I’ve heard levied against the idea that proportional representation can succeed: Why Change the Rules You Won By? Because You're About to Lose.

I believe this is important to be able to respond to this, as it’s difficult to get support even from those who are convinced on the merits unless they believe success is possible.

Why Change the Rules You Won By? Because You're About to Lose.

Why would a government that ran and won on First Past the Post ever implement electoral reform?

One final thing I'll say on the topic of pro rep for today, is that I keep thinking about how if we were to have a Rural Urban Proportional system with Best Runner Up to select Regional Top Up candidates, the local ridings should allow number of seats availble + 1-2 to run. #prorep #canpoli
The most recent floor crossing in the canadian house of commons only furthers my thesis: 1. You should care who your MP is regardless of Party Affilation & it should play a factor when voting 2. Prorep Electoral Reform must still have directly voting for candidates in a riding. #prorep #canpoli

Just wanted to throw this out here for anyone who blames someone for vote splitting, but will refuse to vote anyone other then Liberal even when it is a better options to vote NDP or even Green. It's also why FPTP sucks. #canpoli #onpoli #prorep #fptp 🧡1/2

#Labour and the #CAQ could both learn from #Mongolia
The establishment party in power in Mongolia has a large majority but the electoral system would of crushed them in the upcoming election.
They selfishly implemented #ProRep before the election to ensure their political survival. In the end they've actually managed to stay in power for another round.
Establishment parties should give up on their nostalgia for the days of sharing complete dominance when the writing is on the wall. Just do it.

Very cool that the #Washington State legislature is considering HB 2210 a bill to allow cities to adopt #RankedChoiceVoting , including multi-winner RCV, which is a form of #proportionalRepresentation. https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=2210&Year=2025

A similar bill (SB 212, 2019) passed in California to be vetoed by Governor Newsom. If he'd signed it, more cities could experimenting with PR right now. But he'll be gone next year, so maybe we should try again! #ProRep #STV #California #democracy #CaLeg

@CraigSauve "A record number of people felt unrepresented and uninspired by the two old parties. In response, these parties ramped up their fear campaigns and called for strategic voting. But you know as well as I do that this cannot be a long-term solution: by holding our noses and voting for β€˜the least worst’ option, our democracy will eventually run out of air."
