The type of customer service you get from GLOBE Telecoms.

1. They don't honour a POLICE Report. They only honour an Affidavit of Loss.

2. Once you submit an Affidavit of Loss, it will take at least 5 business days for it to be processed.

3. They will also ask so many questions. Basically, you have to repeat EVERYTHING you told to the POLICE and which is in the POLICE REPORT.

4. They apparently can not confirm your identity, that's why they need an Affidavit of Loss. (What happened to SIM Reg?)

5. By the time they finish their minimum of 5 business days investigation, your SIM registered number was more likely used for scamming by the thieves. /facepalm

I guess they can investigate better than the police.

6. Also, a POLICE Report is free. While an Affidavit of Loss, you have to pay at least one BicMac McDo. Unless you know someone who'll give you a discount.

7. Here's the kicker! They will violate your #PRIVACY too. I'm glad I was not stupid to partake in that privacy violation. (I'll share more details about this later. It's crazy and super wrong!!!) #PrivacyPH

---

SMART on the other hand:
1. Can I ask for your number and ID?
2. Sign here and fill in this form.
3. I blocked your old SIM card.
4. Here's your new SIM card which will be active within 24 hours.

They did not even ask for a police report, affidavit of loss, or whatever. They compared my IDs with what's on record about a SIM registered number.

DONE. Simple. Fast. We even had a good chat about their plans and addons.

Meanwhile, Globe…

SIM Card Registration | Privacy International

The mandatory registration and identification of all mobile phone users purchasing a pre-paid SIM card.

If the lawmakers of the #Philippines, and supporters of the #SIMRegistration, truly believe there are no #Privacy and #Security issues about the bill, then they should address the concerns directly, as outlined by Privacy International. Not doing so is a clear sign that they know the #SIMCardRegistration do have issues when it comes to Privacy and Security of individuals.

"Isn't anonymity suspicious? Isn't it a shield for criminals, trolls, scammers?"

"Anonyity benefits many people: the ability of journalists and citizens to remain anonymous while exercising their freedom of expression."

"It empowers #women and members of the #LGBTW community."

"It also gives a safer space to the marginalised by allowing them to speak out against oppression and abuse without fear of retaliation."

The #Philippines is once again trying to revive the anti-privacy, anti-anonymity, anti-security, heavily flawed #SIMcardRegistration.

"Such laws are often defended on the flawed assumption that they help fight crime."
