@photoncollector The #USA has one of (traditionally the highest) #IncarcertationRate both absolute and espechally relative per capita with >650 per 100k population.

  • At least by any verifyable metrics and guesstimates. Maybe #NorthKorea has a higher #incarceration rate but it's shocking that even by absolute numbers the #US beats the "P.R." #China and #India despite the former being a totalitarian dictatorship and the latter the most poplated nation on earth, outnumbering the US almost 4:1...

  • Where most nations (i.e. #Germany) will usually sentence non-violent offenders (i.e. drug possession) to fines and resocialization (i.e. rehab) the USA slaps mandatory minimums at them for no good reason.
