The 43rd Annual Long Beach Pride Parade took place on Ocean Boulevard on Sunday, drawing rainbow-clad crowds and political figures, including Mayor Rex Richardson and gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra. Despite the parade proceeding as scheduled, the accompanying weekend festival was abruptly canceled by city officials due to unresolved safety and permitting issues, according to authorities. Long Beach Pride organizers stated they cooperated in good faith to meet requirements. Attendees expressed disappointment and frustration, viewing the cancellation as particularly painful amid the current national climate regarding LGBTQ rights. Many saw it as a symbol of the challenges the community faces, though participants emphasized that pride itself cannot be canceled. The city organized a free alternative event at Bixby Park, ensuring celebration continued, while parade-goers carried signs affirming that pride comes from within and cannot be taken away. Long Beach Pride has a long history, dating back to the 1980s, originally emerging in the midst of the AIDS crisis to create visibility and support for the LGBTQ community. Despite setbacks, attendees maintained the spirit of the event through dancing, music, and solidarity, underscoring the resilience and importance of Pride as both a cultural and political statement.

It kinda worked but not the way I wanted. Ugh… Thinking I need to mix some paint in to it.
So I started a little 8”x8” of a #jockstrap.
Trying out a gel gloss medium to replicate #sweat so that it looks like somebody just kicked off their #sneakers & have wet #socks from marching in the #PrideParade and left wet footprints on the flooring.
I’ve got more to do but don’t want to continue until I know this has worked & is well dry.
