California rethinks how to identify 4-year-olds who need extra help learning English

The challenge is that children at this age are still developing language skills. In the past, students would sometimes cry and put their heads down on the desk during tests.

In a groundbreaking display of military genius, Marines outwitted top-tier AI by channeling their inner preschooler, proving that even the most sophisticated tech can be duped by the ancient art of "playing pretend." 🤖📦 DARPA's next experiment: can AI be outsmarted by a game of peekaboo? 🙈

Marines managed to get past an AI powered camera "undetected" thanks to hiding in boxes

In what sounds like a scene from a comedy movie, a squad of Marines successfully outsmarted an advanced artificial intelligence system by employing tactics that would make any child playing hide-and-seek proud. The remarkable demonstration revealed both the impressive capabilities and surprising limitations of modern AI technology. The experiment took place as part of DARPA’s ... Read more

spouse just created a "<child>'s last day at daycare" event on our shared Calendar and I'm feeling unexpectedly emotional about it.

Kiddo has been at that daycare since 6months and is now a 5.5 year old heading to Kindergarten. Next week will be the last week of dropoffs and pickups there, and the last time we'll put her stuff into her cubby and... 😭

Howard G. Smith MD, AM on Instagram: "Brown Rice Unsafe For Young Kids Brown rice contains almost double the amount of arsenic as white rice and threatens the health of infants, toddlers, and preschool children. So say food scientists at the Michigan State University following their analysis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) looking at the arsenic levels and nutritional content of rice from various sources and undergoing different processing. They found that brown rice contains 72-98% more inorganic arsenic, a known carcinogen, than comparable quantities of white rice. They warn that children under five who regularly consume brown rice may exceed international safety limits for arsenic exposure consuming up to three times more arsenic per body weight than adults. They add that infants are most at risk. On the other hand, the nutritionists note that brown vs white rice has a higher fiber and nutrient content. Brown rice of U.S. origin has less arsenic that that coming from overseas. The nutritionist’s recommendation: moderating the intake of brown rice for young children and substituting other grains such as white rice, quinoa, or oats. By the way, brown rice is far less dangerous for adults. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/risa.70008 https://www.news-medical.net/news/20250416/Brown-rice-may-expose-young-children-to-unsafe-arsenic-levels-study-finds.aspx #rice #brown #white #arsenic #infants #toddlers #preschoolers"

Ah, yes, a groundbreaking study reveals that #preschoolers can apparently out-reason the average #Internet user! 🚼🤔 Meanwhile, the article itself performs a stunning impression of an #existential crisis: "400 Bad Request." 📉🙄 Perhaps the #toddlers should be called in to fix the servers next!

My kiddo is almost 5, so we watch a lot of 80's, 90's, 00's stuff on Disney+ and :

1. There's a lot of problematic stuff even in relatively safe shows that we end up having to skip past,

2. Jim Cummings is in EVERYTHING
