Il Tempo: Carabiniere ucciso, Cassazione conferma la condanna di Hjorth
Condanna definitiva per Gabriele Natale Hjorth. La Corte di Cassazione ha dichiarato inammissibile il ricorso della difesa sulla pena, rendendo irrevocabili i 10 anni, 11 mesi e 25 giorni inflitti al giovane per il concorso anomalo nell'omicidio del vicebrigadiere dei carabinieri Mario Cerciello Rega, ucciso a coltellate nella notte tra il 25 e il 26 luglio 2019 nel quartiere Prati, a Roma. I giudici della prima sezione penale hanno invece annullato con rinvio la sentenza d'appello ter limitatamente agli effetti civili e alla valutazione dell'aggravante relativa alla qualifica di pubblici ufficiali della vittima e del collega Andrea Varriale.
Una decisione in linea con la richiesta avanzata in mattinata dalla procura generale, che aveva sollecitato la dichiarazione di inammissibilità del ricorso. Il terzo giudizio di secondo grado, concluso lo scorso luglio con la stessa pena, era stato disposto dopo che la Cassazione aveva annullato con rinvio la sentenza d'appello bis, limitatamente al trattamento sanzionatorio, rendendo però definitiva la responsabilità penale di Hjorth. È già definitiva, invece, la condanna a 15 anni e 2 mesi per Finnegan Lee Elder, autore materiale dell'aggressione, che colpì il carabiniere con undici coltellate. Hjorth è difeso dagli avvocati, Francesco Petrelli e Fabio Alonzi.
Carabinier killed, Cassation confirms Hjorth’s conviction
A definitive sentence has been handed down for Gabriele Natale Hjorth. The Court of Cassation has declared the defense’s appeal regarding the sentence inadmissible, making irrevocable the 10 years, 11 months and 25 days imposed on the young man for his involvement in the homicide of Carabinieri Deputy Brigadier Mario Cerciello Rega, who was stabbed to death in the Prati district of Rome between the night of July 25th and 26th, 2019. The judges of the first penal section have instead overturned the appeal court sentence (case three) limited to civil effects and the assessment of the aggravating factor relating to the victim and colleague Andrea Varriale’s status as public officials.
A decision in line with the request made this morning by the public prosecutor’s office, which had urged the declaration of inadmissibility of the appeal. The third instance court, concluded last July with the same sentence, was ordered after the Cassation declared the appeal court sentence (case two) inadmissible, limited to the sanction, but nevertheless making Hjorth’s criminal responsibility definitive. Finnigan Lee Elder, the actual perpetrator of the attack, who struck the Carabinieri with eleven stabbings, is already sentenced to 15 years and 2 months. Gabriele Natale Hjorth is defended by lawyers Francesco Petrelli and Fabio Alonzi.

AGI - I giudici della Corte di Cassazione hanno condannato a 10 anni, 11 mesi e 25 giorni Gabriel Christian Natale Hjorth, il cittadino americano coinvolto nell'omicidio del vicebrigadiere Mario Cerciello Rega, ucciso con 11 coltellate la notte tra il 25 e il 26 luglio del 2019 nel quartiere romano di Prati. I supremi giudici hanno dichiarato inammissibile il ricorso della difesa per quanto riguarda la pena, mentre hanno annullato con rinvio a nuovo giudizio sul punto dell'aggravante per i soli profili civili.
La procura generale aveva chiesto di condannare a 10 anni e 11 mesi Gabriel Natale Hjorth nell'ambito del processo d'appello ter, disposto dalla Cassazione 'limitatamente al ricalcolo della pena'. Si è trattato di una richiesta di riduzione di cinque mesi rispetto agli 11 anni e 4 mesi inflitti nel precedente Appello bis. Hjorth si trova attualmente ristretto agli arresti domiciliari a Fregene.
La condanna definitiva per Finnegan Lee Elder
È invece definitiva dal 25 novembre 2024 la condanna a 15 anni e 2 mesi per Finnegan Lee Elder colpevole - insieme a Gabriel Natale Hjorth - dell'omicidio del carabiniere. I giudici della Corte d'Appello di Roma avevano ridotto la pena di Elder condannato all'ergastolo in primo grado, a 22 anni in appello e, dopo un passaggio in Cassazione, infine, a 15 anni e 2 mesi nel corso dell'appello bis. Per l'altro imputato, Gabriel Natale Hjorth, il pg, così come i difensori, avevano fatto istanza in Cassazione.

The Court of Cassation judges have sentenced Gabriel Christian Natale Hjorth to 10 years, 11 months and 25 days, the American citizen involved in the murder of Sergeant Mario Cerciello Rega, who was killed with 11 stab wounds on the night between July 25th and 26th, 2019, in the Prati district of Rome. The supreme judges dismissed the defense’s appeal regarding the sentence, while they overturned with referral to a new trial the aggravating factor for purely civil profiles.
The public prosecutor had requested a sentence of 10 years and 11 months for Gabriel Natale Hjorth in the third appeal, ordered by the Cassation “limited to the recalculation of the sentence.” This was a request for a reduction of five months compared to the 11 years and 4 months imposed in the previous Second Appeal. Hjorth is currently under house arrest in Fregene.
The definitive conviction of Finnegan Lee Elder
Conversely, the conviction of 15 years and 2 months for Finnegan Lee Elder, guilty - along with Gabriel Natale Hjorth - of the murder of the carabinieri, is definitive from November 25, 2024. The judges of the Court of Appeal of Rome had reduced Elder’s sentence, initially sentenced to life imprisonment, to 22 years on appeal, and, after a pass to the Cassation, finally to 15 years and 2 months in the second appeal. For the other defendant, Gabriel Natale Hjorth, the prosecutor, as well as the defense, had made a request to the Cassation.

Il Tempo: Roma, viale Mazzini: rottura di una condotta idrica durante lavori in cantiere, traffico in tilt a Prati
Mattinata di disagi nel quartiere Prati, dove un incidente avvenuto nell'area di viale Mazzini ha provocato la temporanea paralisi della viabilità e criticità sulla rete idrica. Durante alcune operazioni all'interno di un cantiere, la rimozione di un albero ha causato la rottura di una conduttura d'acqua, rivelatasi poi una linea principale di approvvigionamento. Un problema registrato intorno alle 12 in via Montesanto. A seguito del danneggiamento della tubatura, è stata immediatamente disposta la chiusura del tratto stradale compreso tra via Sabotino e Viale Mazzini, con ripercussioni sul traffico dell'intero quadrante. La circolazione è rimasta interrotta per circa due ore. Solo intorno alle 14 è stata riaperta una corsia, con carreggiata ridotta in direzione viale Mazzini. Sul posto sono intervenuti gli agenti del Gruppo I Prati della Polizia Locale di Roma Capitale, che hanno gestito la viabilità e delimitato l'area interessata. Nel corso del pomeriggio sono entrati in azione i tecnici di Acea, impegnati nelle operazioni di ripristino della conduttura. La natura della tubazione, classificata come principale, ha reso più complesso l'intervento, richiedendo verifiche approfondite e lavori accurati per evitare ulteriori criticità.

Following the damage to the pipe, the section of road between Via Sabotino and Viale Mazzini was immediately closed, with repercussions on traffic throughout the quadrant. Traffic remained interrupted for approximately two hours. Only around 2 p.m. was one lane reopened, with the roadway reduced in the direction of Viale Mazzini. Officers from the Gruppo I Prati of the Rome City Police arrived on the scene, managing traffic and delineating the affected area. During the afternoon, technicians from Acea took action, engaged in operations to restore the pipe. The nature of the pipe, classified as main, made the intervention more complex, requiring thorough checks and careful work to avoid further issues.
