CenterPoint proposes plan to ‘forgo’ $110 million in profits, invest $5 billion in grid improvements amid Beryl fallout

Since Hurricane Beryl, CenterPoint said it has trimmed and removed approximately 2,000 miles of vegetation from around powerlines, installed over 300 automation devices and constructed more than 1,000 stronger composite poles.

It took a matter of hours, maybe even minutes, for Hurricane Beryl to knock out power for more than 2.2 million customers in the Houston region. Residents might have to spend 15 years paying for the restoration costs incurred by CenterPoint.

CenterPoint wants $1 billion-plus Hurricane Beryl recovery costs to be covered by Houston-area customers

The utility company told investors during a Tuesday conference call that its total restoration costs for the hurricane and derecho windstorm in May are estimated to be at least $1.6 billion, which likely will result in a 2% increase to customers' bills for a period of 15 years.
