@robinsyl @iamada I mean, #DHL is plopping down #PackStation boxes all around bigger retailers like #ALDI, #EDEKA & Co. and even put them in some Train- and Metri Stations (i.e. Köln HBf.)

  • It's just a shame they also abuse it to nonconsensually redirect shipments to a Shitbox that then requires an #App (instead of typing in the shipment tracking number and a PIN as they did in the past) because many of these don't even have that Touchscreen & Barcode-/QR-Code - Scanner but abuse #Bluetooth & #Tracking (under the false pretense to combat #vandalism & #abuse), and make it extra hard for #TechIlliterates to get their stuff out of these.

So @digitalcourage did setup a spechal website just to walktrough people on how to get their delivery sent home or at least pickup-able in person at a parcel shop…

  • Here @BNetzA should mandate free, accessible & anonymous access (compareable to #PosteRestante at any postal shop) instead.

#DHL ist die #Paket-Sparte und anders als #DeutschePost nicht für #Briefe sondern nur #Pakete zuständig.

Das führt allerdings auch zu interessanten Konstellationen, dass manche Services nur als "#Brief" und nicht als #Päckchen verfügbar sind (bspw. #PosteRestante) weil diese nur für Briefsendungen vorgesehen bzw. vertraglich zugesichert sind!

  • Und damit ist es soweit ich weiß die einzige legale Möglichkeit anonym Briefsendungen zu erhalten bzw. zu empfangen.

@cdarwin And espechally the latter one is a big point.

#USPS is expensive because it has to cover not just #COTUS / ("lower 48" + D.C.) but #PuertoRico, #AmericanVirginIslands, #Guam, #Hawaii, #Alaska, #MinorOutlyingIslands and also do #International #Shipping to #military bases and troops (or at least peer into their supply chains).

  • Basically they do everything that isn't subject to "Defense Courier Service" or other classified mail...

Not to mention as a #NationalCarrier per #IPU they also get to do a lot of mandatory stuff that is expensive and not abolishable, from #customs handling to #PosteRestante to god forbid #Telegrams (not the shitty messenger tho!)...

  • The only reason a C5-sized envelope costs me € 1,60 nationwide in #Germany is because Germany is smaller than #California and way denser urbanized on average.

Not to mention USPS has to maintain a shitload of locations to get their mandatory availability to the average household:

  • Pretty shure that USPS kiosk in Salmon Forks even if it's just an unmanned dropbox isn't even recovering it's electricity bill!

#PostalService is #infrastructure, and what happens when infrastructure is being forced to be run as a #ForProfitBusiness with ever absurder #profit demands can be seen in the #UK with their #TapWater systems...
