I guess a question is "what is a fleet?”

If your company has a hundred trucks, and two of them are electric, can you say those two are a fleet of their own?

Why have I seen local media state that Keith Wilson’s company has an “all electric" fleet of trucks? He has _some_ electric trucks, but looking at the company website clearly shows standard diesel trucks.

Local politics as the antidote to national politics

I am really impressed by my choice of city council candidates (district 3). In the upcoming election we can rank up to 6 candidates and it's possible I will do that. It is possible to change the face of politics in Portland if people participate. I'd highly encourage #Portlanders to check out their candidates in person.

There is a greater diversity in choices and a chance to let some different people set policy. Younger people, people who have experienced poverty and homelessness, people who rent housing, people who have not been bought by the local moneyed interests, people who want to try evidence based solutions to problems. It could be a lot of fun and help a lot of people.

I'm at the District 3 candidate forum. It's close to an embarrassment of riches. I'd vote for even the worst of these candidates over any of the current city council.

More later.

Shorter Wheeler: I appeased the aristocracy at every opportunity and yet they did nothing to help the city.

For those following, the amendments proposed by Commissioner Gonzalez to rescind the city's rules requiring bird safe windows and ecoroofs on new development have failed. Background: https://www.opb.org/article/2024/01/12/portland-city-council-mulls-changing-development-rules-housing-shortage/
