Intro time! I’m an environmental anthropologist and writer in #Texas. My work explores cultural aspects of in/equality in energy transitions. I'm also a former medievalist. On weekends I binge genre fiction and explore green spaces with my partner and our pup.

I dig #Books, #Gardening, #PublicSpace, #Design, #Ethnography, #Theory, #STS, #PopCultureStudies. I advocate #Feminism, #AntiRacism and #ClimateJustice. Glad to be here!

Call for papers! Realizing Resistance III: The Expanding Universe is an interdisciplinary conference set to take place in May 2023.

This conference aims to bring together scholars from across disciplines to examine the nearly half century span of Star Wars media as cultural texts. We invite scholarly and creative interventions with an explicit focus on themes of resistance and justice. How do these films and other media objects contribute to, reflect on, or depart from broader contemporary cultural practices and social discourses? https://dcsco-op.org/rriii/rriii-2023/

The Digital Cultural Studies Co-Operative

I enjoyed #BlackPanther2 a lot more than I thought I would, but why oh why do scenes have to be so dark? I don't know if #GameOfThrones started this trend - showruners for #HouseOfTheDragon confirmed that dark episode was a creative choice - but I think it ruins the viewing experience when you're supposed to be able to see the action happening.

I thought this film, as well as the first one, has great commentary on imperialism and race. In one of my early class papers, I brought up the hinted-at colonialism in #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy and it would be interesting to compare those early #MCU films to this phase in that respect. Maybe when days become longer than 24 hours and I have all the extra time I need.

It's the same thing for gender roles. The #BlackPanther franchise gets big applause for the Dora Milaje, female leaders on the Council, Nakia the spy using skills and not sex to accomplish her goals...

I'm wondering how many female MCU superheroes have been in serious hand-to-hand combat scenes with the main male villain. I may need to watch #BlackWidow again.
