Viel Regionalverkehr gibt es nicht auf der #Pontebbana zwischen #Tarvisio Boscoverde und Carnia(/Udine), die wegen dem Bahntrassenradweg aber ein beliebtes Freizeitziel geworden ist.

Statt den CAF-Triebwagen kommen nun vermehrt lokespannte Wendezüge zum Einsatz mit einem eigenen umgebauten Fahrradwaggon - nicht umsonst, wie sich schnell erkennen lässt.

I’ve taken this photo in the summer of 1989. It cannot be repeated: This section of the #Pontebbana line closed in 2000 (and has since been transformed into a cycling trail). There is now a new station called “Tarvisio Boscoverde” on the other side of the valley.

#Villach 🇦🇹 to #Venice 🇮🇹: by loco hauled train as far as #Udine over the new double-track #Pontebbana line. Namesake #Pontebba station is one of the few places that were already served by the old alignment. The railfan’s preferred spot: the rear vestibule window in the last car.
#Camporosso in Valcanale 🇮🇹. Italy’s north-eastern corner. A quiet place. The old #Pontebbana railway line has been transformed into a cycling trail. The station buildings still stand. A perfect place to slow down. (Even the ⚽️ newspaper at the local bar ☕️ is from two days ago.)
#Eurocity #Romulus leaving #Tarvisio Centrale on its way from #Vienna 🇦🇹 to #Rome 🇮🇹. An #FS class 656 locomotive is in charge of the train as far as Venice Mestre.
