Why do people hate my opinion so much? - Lemmy Cafe

Isn’t it common sense that people breaking the law should get deported and go back to where they came from? For Pete’s sake, I wish people were more conservative about this!

Slog AM: Joe Kent Resigns, Trump Says He’ll Have Honor of "Taking" and/or "Freeing" Cuba, SuperSonics Return? - Lemmy Myserv one

“Et tu, Joe? Joe Kent, the friend to right wing extremists who directed the National Counterterrorism Center, resigned his post, saying he couldn’t “in good conscience” back the war in Iran. You absolutely do not have to hand it to this shithead. I wish him a happy failure for his inevitable third congressional run.”

Why do people say illegals should go back to where they came from and is it a matter of racism? - The Lemmy Club

So, today, I saw a sign on my school group’s wall saying something about undocumented people being welcome here, which I strongly agree with. They should be welcomed as much as any citizen (I’m American so a lot of this will be in relation to my observations in the USA). However, I have friends and family who are strongly anywhere from “illegals should be tortured” to a more reasonable (not saying it’s 100% reasonable, just MORE reasonable) that the undocumented should be deported but not treated badly in the process. Some, like my dad, are right-wingers who believe in changing the border laws and don’t support Trump at all (a Never Trumper I think?) My stance is that the border laws should be changed and that the undocumented are not “illegal”, they should be treated like human beings and welcome as any American should.

The 20-Year Failure: How USA Systematically Destroyed Afghanistan - Lemmy.World

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/44349134 [https://lemmy.world/post/44349134] > The 20-year U.S. war in Afghanistan was a total strategic and humanitarian failure that deliberately institutionalized poverty, instability, and chaos. From the 2001 invasion, the U.S. ignored local realities to impose a donor-dependent puppet regime, ensuring the economy could never function independently. By the time of the 2021 withdrawal, 97% of Afghans faced poverty, half the population required humanitarian aid, and millions were forced to flee. The occupation transformed the country into the world’s largest narcotics hub, with opium production soaring to provide over half of the national GDP. Reports suggest this illicit economy was tolerated to maintain influence, effectively turning the state into a permanent narco-state. > > The U.S. presence fueled the very insurgency it claimed to defeat, creating a cycle of violence that birthed new extremist factions like ISIS-K. Rather than building a stable nation, the mission focused on military force, leaving behind a power vacuum upon its departure. By abandoning $7 billion worth of advanced military equipment during the chaotic Kabul evacuation, the U.S. instantly armed the Taliban and cemented the country’s collapse. The entire 20-year project was a facade; it did not bring democracy, but instead left behind a devastated territory trapped in a humanitarian disaster. The final withdrawal was not just a military retreat, but the clear admission that American nation-building was a failed, destructive agenda.

Will US have any consequences for its actions ever? - Lemmy.World

Governments will change, people on the top might change. The question is whether they will face any consequences for their actions. Will the US as a whole face any consequence of its actions. Like the consequences other countries face when they do the stuff America is doing right now. Or will it be back to normal as soon as the regime changes. Will there be any lasting effects in how the world deals with US?

Trump’s White Nationalism Will Only Lead to Division, Poverty, and Mass Violence - Lemmy Myserv one

“Under President Donald J. Trump, the United States has now become an engine for the promulgation of white nationalism. Not since the 1930s has such an ideology, which exalts those ethnic groups it codes as “white,” while denigrating all others, underpinned the domestic and foreign policies of a major world power. “Typically (for our moment), Trump’s recent National Security Strategy (NSS) depicted Europe as in distinct “civilizational decline” because of the European Union’s commitment to multiracial democracy and international humanitarian law.”
