Today we renew our commitment: End Polio — Every Child, Every Vaccine, Everywhere. Polio is preventable. Vaccination works. Together we can finish what decades of health workers, volunteers, scientists and communities began.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀
- Polio mainly affects children under five and can cause irreversible paralysis or death.
- Global vaccination campaigns have reduced wild poliovirus cases by over 99% in the last 35 years.
- Any missed child is a risk—gaps in immunization can allow the virus to return.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼
- Ensure every child in your care is fully immunized on schedule (including boosters).
- Support and share information about local vaccination drives.
- Practice and promote good sanitation and hand hygiene.
- Report suspected cases or unexplained acute flaccid paralysis to local health authorities.
- Donate time or resources to trusted organizations working on polio eradication.
𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀
- Polio spreads mainly via the fecal–oral route and through contaminated water/food.
- Vaccine-associated paralytic polio is extremely rare; the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks.
- Continued surveillance and high immunization coverage are essential to keep communities safe.
