Over 85% of approx 108,000 #SanMateo voters approve the removal of ethically challenged sheriff Christina Corpus by a four fifths vote of county supervisors. Support for the unique #BallotMeasure garnered 90,900 votes for her removal, more than she won her office with. 17,318 county residents voted against removing the embattled #LawEnforcement official who has so far lost support of seven cities in the county, two sheriff’s unions, state and federal congressional leaders that have all called for Corpus to resign.
“While the initiative was in many ways unprecedented, it is our firm belief that, in this case, decisive action was necessary,” local #PoliceUnions said in a joint statement. “Today’s certified vote means that Sheriff Corpus’s reign of unscrupulous mismanagement will soon come to an end.”
Corpus says she has no plans to resign and her legal team is ready to fight the matter out in the courts saying she is "entitled to a public evidentiary hearing before a neutral and unbiased body. My legal team and I look forward to this opportunity, and are confident that I will be vindicated through a legitimate process.”

#NYPD officer lands $175K settlement over ‘courtesy cards’ that help drivers get out of traffic stops

NEW YORK (AP) — "A New York City police officer has reached a $175,000 settlement with the city in a lawsuit that illuminated the use of the 'courtesy cards' that officers dole out to friends and relatives to get out of traffic stops and other minor infractions, according to an agreement filed in Manhattan federal court Monday.
"The deal brings an end to a lawsuit brought last year by Officer Mathew Bianchi that claimed he’d been punished by his superiors for failing to honor the cards, though the settlement itself makes no substantive changes to how the cards are used by NYPD officers.
"The laminated cards, which typically bear an image of an NYPD badge and the name of one of the city’s police unions, are not officially recognized by the police department but have long been treated as a perk of the job.
"The city’s #PoliceUnions issue them to members, who circulate them among those who want to signal their NYPD connections — often to get out of minor infractions such as speeding or failing to wear a seat belt."

The deal brings an end to a lawsuit brought last year by Officer Mathew Bianchi that claimed he was punished by his superiors for failing to honor the cards, though the settlement itself makes no substantive changes to how the cards are used by NYPD officers. The Staten Island-based officer said he was ousted from his job in the traffic unit and moved to a night patrol shift after he issued a ticket to a friend of the NYPD’s highest-ranking uniformed officer.
