One of my R. fantasitica #dartfrogs was near the edge of the glass where I could get a photo. They're usually pretty secretive so this was a rare chance. #Ranitomeya #poisondartfrogs

The photos are not great but the subjects are... Green and black poison dart frogs. Two of them hopping in dead leaves under the thick forest canopy. Very small, very fast, very cute, and also poisonous so they should not be licked.

After one night in San Jose we setup to leave the central valley of Costa Rica by road through the cloud forest, and then by boat, to reach the rain forest on the Caribbean coast .
My first animal encounter was this strawberry poison dart frog. As its name suggests, it can be used to coat darts for hunting. It's skin secretion are very toxic if they enter the blood stream.
They are very small and very very cute.
