#Book review: The Feminist Art of Walking (Morag Rose, Pluto Press, 2025).

“At the outset, Rose adopts a cautious stance toward famous walking figure of the flâneur, urban wanderer. Rose calls out how the notion of the flâneur has historically been “male, wealthy and able-bodied."

She calls on us to consider how walking can function as activism, weaving together histories, memories and the present within urban landscapes.”

Books of 2026:

3. They Will Beat The Memory Out Of Us: Forcing Nonviolence On Forgetful Movements by Peter Gelderloos (2024)
2. It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis (1935)
1. Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge (2006)

I quite enjoyed this textual reminder to learn from our past and build something together as we reject the preplanned future of the state.

I was recently interviewed for the podcast #Sociology Ruins Everything (hosted by Matt Sedlar). We talked about radical #trust (distrust in hierarchies and social trust for other people) in an era of rapidly escalating authoritarianism and misinformation, and about my new book Who Do We Trust? Power, Solidarity, and Antiauthoritarianism (published by #PlutoPress).

“The truth is never fixed…” #victorserge #plutopress #DoorstoppersInDecember

As I mentioned in my post on Victor Serge's "Unforgiving Years", this was a book I'd been hoping to get to all year. However, when I finally picked it up at the end of November, I had no idea that today's book was on the horizon... But a mention on social media alerted me to the fact that the left-wing indie publisher, …

I'm grateful to #PlutoPress for checking whether I would agree to allow #AI companies to use my book based on my 15-year-long investigative work on Julian #Assange and #WikiLeaks:

#SecretPowerWikiLeaksAndItsEnemies, foreword by #KenLoach

for #AI training

I did NOT agree

My new #book Who Do We #Trust? Power, #Solidarity, and Anti-Authoritarianism is now available from #PlutoPress!!

Solidarity is an antidote to the brutality, indifference, & inequality brought by hierarchy. Stop trusting authority + start trusting each other.

AK Press is sprucing up their Working Classics series, which is great! When I realised I was interested in anarchism, I ordered the original four and got a deep dive. Recently, I read Lorenzo Kom'boa Ervin's Anarchism and the Black Revolution, and while I know it's currently in print with Pluto, it would make such a good addition to the Working Classics series!! It's far more recent than their other options, written in a very grounded and accessible way (as opposed to, say, Anarcho-Syndicalism), and it's by and about Black struggle, which is largely absent from the series. If anyone was getting interested in anarchism, I'd recommend it to them in a heartbeat. Before Kropotkin, Goldman, and Bookchin and maybe even Graeber (depending on the person).

Talking about something more important than a dead old guy who did nothing but chasing clout for the State he was representing, talking shit about LGBTQIA+ people, women who should shut up in front of men and doctors who were willing to perform abortions, #PlutoPress has currently put for free a very nice book, Trans Femme Futures by Nat Raha and Mijke Van Der Drift. I'm still in chapter 1 but it already looks like a great book.
