Software modem (c++) running on a #PlutoSDR receiving an #OpulentVoice signal transmitted from the HDL version in a #LibreSDR.

Big interoperability milestone achieved tonight.

A few pics with the signals right at the output of my ADALM-Pluto in the 2390 MHz band, before amplification. In order or appearance: 4FSK, DQPSK, GMSK. I don't normally use the GMSK modem due to it's slightly lower performance, it's just there to spite my D-Star-using friends. Audio payloads are Codec2 and Opus.

The amplification chain has two stages: first to ~16 dBm, second one to ~36 dBm.

@yo8rzz I see that there may be some GRC flow diagrams for measuring EVM. Will look into that once a basic radio has been tested. Will be interesting to explore TX back-off vs. TX linearity/EVM for simple digital modulation with the Pluto SDR. Think I can get there from what I’ve seen using GNU Radio Companion behind the Pluto SDR… #HamRadio #PlutoSDR
@yo8rzz Thanks for the Q about TX chain linearity. I’m thinking to use a ZFL-1042J amp following the Pluto for a max output of ~ 0.1 W. Initial thought for the radio is SSB or FM where I can run a little closer to 1 dB compression. Agree that Dig TX EVM will suffer if not backing off by ~10 dB from 1 dB point. The ZFL gain will make up for some of the Pluto output level backoff, but another external (linear) gain stage may be needed. Exploring other TX amps for higher power. #HamRadio #PlutoSDR
Here is the system drawing showing the local laptop PC with headset and the remote computer & RF equipment group (Raspberry Pi 5, Pluto SDR, and transmit/receive amplifiers and filters leading to the antenna). Ideally, the remote equipment is located VERY CLOSE to the antenna(s) to minimize feed line losses at these higher frequencies. #HamRadio #PlutoSDR

Lower cost & performance, but more bands than the ICOM IC-905? Have been exploring how to inexpensively get on VHF/UHF/SHF bands (2m and up) and believe the ADALM Pluto and RaspberryPi5 with Remote SDR SW will support that. Many challenges to achieve all 8 RF bands to 5.9 GHz, but with purchasing a few items might be able to get there. More info at the qsl.net blog. #HamRadio #PlutoSDR

A Pluto-Based SDR Radio for VHF-SHF Bands

Getting the lab organized a-bit more: Printed out a data sheet for a pair of Narda RF couplers. Have both couplers back in the same storage package again. What is the RF Geek equivalent of the old hammer-nail saying?

When all you have are RF couplers, everything looks like a return loss measurement…

@vk6flab Solar flux measurement/monitoring with an ADALM Pluto SDR. Sounds like a fun project. Learning ahead! Thanks for sharing & 73.
