Also, a PSA: did you know that Ubuntu's daily updater restarts all services under systemd control? I didn't know that.

And while I can see how it's a very reasonable design choice, it also made one of #ploopy s pick and place machines crash randomly (literally, there's a randomizer in the timer).

Cool related fact: Ubuntu has socket-acfivated services, where you can let systems listen and buffer packets for you. An elegant way of handling a network service that gets unexpectedly restarted!

I was all set up to do a mini project today, then accidentally found an open source project that has already achieved exactly what I wanted to do AND still has complete units in stock ready to purchase so you don't have to order PCBs and do some dodgy surface-mount soldering and program the controller and tweak the 3D prints to fit.

Redditor r/pelahale put together a great video about using ceramics in a vibratory tumbler to decrease the lustre of phenolic resin balls.

The reason he did this is so that the balls will track better in his #Ploopy Adept (which he modded into an Anyball).

After getting frustrated at the electronics waste I'm generating by cycling through computer mice every 3-5 years, I decided to grab a kit for the highly repairable #ploopy mouse.

With three months of use, I find it _tolerable_. I'm trying my damnedest to like it, which pains me to say because I would love a truly open mouse.
