@deinol @kensanata @phf Those beasts are weird indeed, as they are two-legged and their feet have tentacle like appendages that seem to double as crude manipulators. They have an exoskelleton and scaley skin. (Who will draw a sketch?!). Oozing forth from the wounds is some kind of heamolymph. These are entirely not vertebrates as the scouts know them. Mateo Johson and Janis Mengeti discuss if the meat could be edible. Probably yes, at least the smell is not too bad.
After the crew have confirmed what they knew about the world already, they decide to take off to have another look from orbit. Seb Holzer is a rather poor pilot, so he has to heavily rely on the Beowulf-Class A-BS11 Spaceship's Consoles, but he manages o.k. and they boost to orbit wthin minutes.
Maria Callisto is doing passive radar sweeps to avoid detection, and checks the scopes: about 19.000 km west of where they first landed seems to be some kind of town or large village inside of a broad ravine. 11.000 km to the northeast she detects some unusual geology. "Damn it, on a real scout ship, I could do a deep radar scan to check out what it is ...". about 8000 km southwest radar indicates a couple of buildings. The surounding lands she observes in the scopes seem to indicate some kind of estate.
Janis Mengeti who is the navigator and most versed in diplomacy asks:
"Whereto now? 1) village in the ravine 2) weird geology 3) estate?"
