The Urbanczik-Senn plasticity model is a powerful framework for understanding synaptic #plasticity in #NeuralNetworks. It integrates dendritic prediction errors to unify supervised, unsupervised, and #ReinforcementLearning under a single rule. Its predictive coding mechanism and robust learning dynamics make it valuable for simulating neural processing and exploring plasticity. Here’s a short simulation using the #NESTsimulator:

Spike-timing-dependent #plasticity (#STDP) is a core rule in #ComputationalNeuroscience that adjusts #synaptic strength based on precise pre- vs. postsynaptic #spike timing, enabling #TemporalCoding and #learning in #SNN. In this post, I summarize its mathematical formulation, functional consequences for learning and #memory along with a simple #Python example:

#NeuralPlasticity & #learning are distinct but interrelated processes. #Plasticity denotes biological change in #NeuralSystems, while learning is its functional expression in #NetworkDynamics & #behavior. Learning arises from coordinated plastic processes, reshaping #NeuralStateSpace & #attractors to support stable yet flexible representations. Here's a new post on these concepts & their implications for #ComputationalNeuroscience:

I finally finished my WiFi radio build. It has some rough edges, but it's functional!

This uses yoRadio (https://github.com/e2002/yoradio) on an esp32, paired with a nice little enclosed speaker meant for a Harmon Kardon system.
I probably should have spent more than €2 on an amp, but it's not bad. 🤷‍♂️ I like the clicky buttons and big volume knob though!

Incorporating structural #plasticity in #SpikingNeuralNetworks (#SNN) enables dynamic #synaptic connectivity, reflecting the #brain's adaptability. By modeling synaptic growth and pruning based on #calcium concentration, we can simulate processes such as #learning and #MemoryFormation. In this post, I reproduce the #NESTSimulator tutorial on structural plasticity, demonstrating its impact on network stability and #homeostasis:

🧠 New preprint by Zhong et al. proposes a #synaptic mechanism for #chunking in #WorkingMemory.

Using short-term #plasticity and synaptic augmentation, their model shows how items can be temporarily suppressed and later retrieved as chunks, increasing effective capacity w/o increasing simultaneous activity.

🧠 New paper from our neighboring Gründemann Lab @dzne 👋

Chloé Maëlle Benoit and colleagues show that #axon initial segments in #mPFC #neurons undergo #learning-dependent #StructuralPlasticity during fear extinction, linking #AIS dynamics to #MemoryFormation in vivo. A very cool study that extends the concept of learning-related #plasticity beyond #synapses to intrinsic neuronal compartments.

After starting to mess around with #Bézier curves in #Blender and Inkscape, I tried them out in #Plasticity and #Rhino too, and now I’ve decided I’m definitely using them whenever I’m working with #NURBS surfaces. A single-span degree-3 curve lets me make pretty much any shape with the fewest points possible and get perfectly smooth surfaces… plus there are a bunch of other perks! #CAD #b3d

Spent the weekend learning Plasticity and quite like it! Took a a little bit of time to understand the quite severe differences in approach between polygon modeling and solid modeling, but getting there!
