In my faffing about with text editors, I ran into something kind of funny:

So, there's not a straightforward way to install vi (not vim) on termux. There is, however, a copy of ed in the base install.

And so I started poking at it. Amusingly, it turns out to be a surprisingly decent editor for the constraint that is grumpily poking at a piece of glass with my thumbs.

I'm sure @ed1conf will be delighted.

Let this be your reminder of the day to back up EVERYTHING at least once, and to CHECK it's behaving itself at least weekly.

I've set a repeating reminder for Friday afternoons to check my backups are working. There's a link to click in the reminder to take me straight to the location of the backups, so I have no excuse to "do it later"!

To be honest, this is actually more like a HTTP proxy for Gopher, but I might at some point turn this into a standalone client or even port it to some native platforms.” Those of y’all old enough […]

I was just introduced to termux, proot-distro, and the fact that alpine linux has a copy of OpenBSD's vi in their repository.

If anything at all, this #AI thing is bringing to people attention the existence of some #plaintext esoteric syntaxes, such as #markdown, #plantuml and #mermaid, among others I myself find funny or exotic.

Having an average knowledge of these formats make interactions more straightforward requiring less "usage", or however the interaction scarcity is called.

Also, the effective use of plaintext in prompts, in shared attachments and in required outputs (instead of overcomplicated proprietary formats such as #microslop office formats), greatly increases the response speed and efficiency of #LLM s.

New post: WordStar: the pre-Microsoft Word days

WordStar was the hand I was dealt when I started working with computers back in the 1980s. It was also probably the cheapest word processor on the market, knowing my boss
