To be alive--is Power-- / Existence--in itself-- / Without a further function-- / Omnipotence--Enough-- / / To be alive--and Will! / 'Tis able as a God-- / The Maker--of Ourselves--be what-- / Such being Finitude!

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First by reflection, which is noblest; second by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

Before mass leaders seize the power to fit reality to their lies, their propaganda is marked by its extreme contempt for facts as such, for in their opinion fact depends entirely on the power of man who can fabricate it.

#Mutualism in disguise: #CarnivorousPlants and wasps blur the line between friend and food https://phys.org/news/2026-05-carnivorous-wasps-blur-line-friend.html paper: https://esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ecy.70395

"the #PitcherPlants get a boost in nitrogen by consuming a wasp every now and again, and the #wasps get a stable food source in the form of nutrient-rich nectar. By forgoing the immediate reward of capturing many #insects, these #plants may be ensuring a stable population of prey for the future."

Probably going to remove the frost cover to avoid further breakings (at this point I think it’s a greater danger than frost is), but among new surviving flowers: Sarracenia rubra Brunswick Co. NC, flava maxima OP, and 2 different ((x swaniana x ‘Scarlet Belle’ x oreophila) x “Lunch Box.”
Also an “Eric Green OP” pitcher that’s currently stealing the show (short enough to avoid the tarp, big enough to be flamboyant).

#Nepenthes spathulata has been surprisingly easy to care for. I was under the impression that it might pout under my conditions since my nighttime temps don’t drop as much as they should. Turns out, it’s one of my strongest growers!

The lower pitchers of #Nepenthes vogelii are more or less cylindrical from top to bottom. I don’t have any examples of uppers right now, but I look forward to seeing those infundibular insect traps someday!

The first flowers, and first pitchers, of Sarracenia outside this year (naturally, right before we expect temps in the low 20’s F tomorrow night so I have to pull the electric blanket out now to try and ward off frost…). No surprise it’s S. oreophila “North Sound” x purpurea “Giant No. 1” blooming first with those early season northern genes, but what I am surprised by is the number of younger plants that are already pitchering and even blooming.
