Just watched the Pitch Meeting for War of the Worlds because that's as close to that thing as I want to get.
Writer guy: So I wrote this dystopian society where everyone is constantly serveilled and fed personalised propaganda to them through these personal handheld computers. They're so powerful that campanies used them to influence the outcome of elections towards fascism.
Producer guy: You're just describing real life
Writer guy: Yeah, but they also have neon lights everywhere so it makes it cyberpunk
Producer guy: oh we don't have neon lights everywhere. This is completely cyberpunk!
