September 1, 2013: Another hot and humid day. This time, though, the heavens opened around noon. In Pine Grove Furnace State Park I stopped by the general store to eat a half gallon of ice cream, the traditional way thru hikers celebrate reaching the half way point. I'll physically cross it tomorrow, but after this store there won't be ice cream for quite a while. So celebrate a mile or two early. It took me about an hour to eat it. Thirty minutes for the first 1.5 quarts, and another 30 for the last pint.
I decided to stay in the hostel here for the night. It has air conditioning, and is worth every penny.
