Pierre Etaix & Jerry Lewis: The Day the Clown Cried

Yesterday Lewis would have turned 100.
Born Joseph Levitch; March 16, 1926 – August 20, 2017

Jerry Lewis’s unfinished Holocaust film stars himself as German circus #clown Helmut Dorque, who entertains Jewish children as he leads them into the gas chamber. Though never released, the legendary 1972 title made a new generation of #Hollywood recognize #JerryLewis for something more than his goofy Nutty Professor and Bellboy roles.

Michael Lurie – „Jerry Lewis: From Darkness To Light“ (2024)

Jerry Lewis war für mich immer schon mehr als ein Komiker. Ich habe schon als Kind jede seiner Shows mit Dean Martin gesehen, jede seiner Figuren geliebt – nicht nur den tollpatschigen Chaoten, der sich mit absurdem Timing und überdrehter Mimik in jedes Herz gestohlen hat. Seine Filme waren ständige Begleiter, und doch ahnte ich eigentlich nur, wie komplex der Mann hinter dem Lachen tatsächlich war. Dieser Dokumentarfilm bringt all das zum Vorschein und lässt tief hinter die Maske des „King of Comedy“ blicken. (ARD, Neu!)
