The female King Parrot, stopping by to see if I've put seed out (I had).

And a Lewin's Honeyeater, in the vines on the Cocos Palm about to check out the fruit (out of frame above it).

Low clouds this morning in the mountains, bit that didn't stop a collection of birds turning up as soon as I stepped on the veranda.

They wanted food, but I don't have any.

Also, look how wide a kookaburra can open its beak!

We had some hopeful visitors this afternoon. They were looking for free food, but we didn't have anything appropriate (bugs, skinks, small snakes).

Today's birds on campus are decidedly spring-themed.

We have a trio of Pied Currawong fledglings.
A parent Masked Lapwing dutifully sitting on eggs.
A Grey Butcherbird fledgling excitedly calling for food as its parent turns up to feed it.
And not following the theme, a Buff-banded Rail on the edge of the lake.

I took pity on it and put some sultanas out on the feeder.

There were around 6 or 7 Pied Currawongs in the trees out the front of the house this morning, swooping and generally trying to scare off two Brown Goshawks (who clearly think they want to nest here again this year).

Also in the recording is the occasional Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, and a young Channel-billed Cuckoo off in the distance.
