A small detail in the woods earlier this month. I noticed a spruce branch touching the trunk of a silver birch by chance one day while I was walking home. I snapped a photo and then forgot it until today. It's simple, but I quite like it actually.

Djupa rötter
I often try to spot small details in the forest, but I don't know how this tiny Norway spruce had escaped my attention – until today. Guess who has walked by that spot for years...

Are there any botanists out there? Is this spruce a seedling or a sapling? It was difficult to photograph, as you might expect. The spruce kept disappearing into the chaotic background until I managed to get this photo by shooting wide open. It turned out alright, but I wish there was snow.

Tommonenkin pallokuusi tuli syksyllä vastaan. Liekö pystyssä enää, kun oli siemenpuuhakkuuseen ilmoitetulla kuviolla.

Norway spruce (Picea abies) cone infected by Thekopsora areolata, the causal agent of cherry spruce rust. An important element for the Thekopsora areolate life cycle illustration. 🙃🙃🙃 no more aecia painting for a while. My husband said: “ it's good because it looks disgusting.” #botanicalillustration #watercolor #thekopsoraareolata #piceaabies #sprucecone #plantpathology #forestpathology #rustfungus #mycologyart
