I finished the "Doris" movie that I didn't get to last night. Not bad.

Now watching I Confess (1953), directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring Montgomery Clift, Anne Baxter, Karl Malden, Brian Aherne, and O. E. Hasse. It's noir!

Thought I’d re-rip some CDs to lossless. Grabbed a random handful.

Photographed to document 1) my exquisite taste, and 2) the current disarray of my collection. So much work to do before I get around to the final tidy up.

Until that time…I’ll see if the kids will let me sit through one full al-

Doug And The Slugs *Music For The Hard Of Thinking* CA Ritdong/RCA 1982

Doug and The Slugs were a staple of the Vancouver music scene in the 1980s, playing fun rock and power pop. This was their most successful album, reaching to 22 on the Canadian album charts and spawning two Top 30 Canadian singles. Ritdong was a label formed by leader Doug Bennett as way to control the band's music. Bennett was also a graphic designer and did the cover art.

finally got round to watching Gincho Wataridori ("Wandering Ginza Butterfly") (dir. Kazuhiko Yamaguchi, 1972) starring Meiko Kaji, Tatsuo Umemiya, and Tsunehiko Watase

I don't think it's possible for any film to be more "my jam" than this, and I absolutely loved it from start to finish. it just oozes 70s cool that makes this the best film decade imo. it's a bit silly, a bit cheesy, but who cares about that I could literally watch Meiko Kaji all day

Kaji plays Nami, recently released from prison and working as a hostess. when the madam of her bar is fucked over by the local unscrupulous yakuza boss she tries to hustle him at pool to pay off the debt. she wins the game but the yakuza refuse to honour the deal, and Umemiya is killed in the fallout

cue the violent climax with Kaji slicing up countless yakuza goons Lady Snowblood style (she even has the umbrella sword)

great soundtrack too, it was Meiko Kaji's debut album (2nd pic is my copy of the CD with it's gorgeous wraparound cover)

Suitably retro futuristic look for playing Boards of Canada. #physicalmedia
It's breaking my heart the way some people are turning physical media into a #trend. It increases the chance of popularity waning, and then the state of #physicalmedia and those who still want to collect it in a worse place than before. I really hope not.

My first Criterion Collection editions (4K UHD + Blu-ray). Love the packaging, the booklets, and extras on discs.
