I've been swinging these around for a couple of weeks now. They're fun! Commonly called Indian or light clubs, they've slowly been growing in popularity again lately. Inspired by Indian #PhysicalCulture, they were adopted into military training in India, Britain, Australia, Canada, and the US until after WWI, were the first fitness trend (for both men & women), and included in the Olympics (1904, 1932). They even became weapons used by the suffragette bodyguard. https://suffrajitsu.com/indian-clubs/ #History

Looking for people (preferably #hexagenarians like me) interested (also practically) in #PhysicalCulture, #Bartitsu, historical #calisthenics, and other ways to befriend the #andropause.

I started general exercises, soon advancing to wooden #barbel / #staff and then to #IronWand, #Cane and #stick #fencing.

Skill & experience sharing, discussions, perhaps some group practice (online or offline). Anybody out there?

@PulpLibrarian: Today in pulp I'm looking at Physical Culture magazine - health and fitness from the early 20th Century. Can we live on meat alone? Physical Culture, August 1919. Working out, 117 years ago... Physic...…

Those new to The Drum and Page will not know that this is the beginning of the @bjp_physie interclub season. Our first interclub is tomorrow.
Each season I paint my nails the same colour as her outfit. I do it as a sign of support for her and my involvement in her life (it's also a fun way of annoying the patriarchy).
I believe it is important for daughters to see their fathers supporting their interests and passions in ways that have meaning and significance for their relationship. It can be as simple as painting your nails, but more importantly being present at competitions, at lessons, at home.
Physical Culture has given my daughter so much in terms of confidence, friendships, passion and belief in herself.

Today, more climbing than hiking. I mean, we’ve gone through some iron (steel?) ropes - or via ferratas in #Slovakia.

Via ferraty na Skalke: via ferrata Komín and Via ferratovy svet. Two somehow challenging places where you can go through the air via the ropes. Just as you can see on the pic related 🧗‍♂️

Although routes were not that hard, a lot of small wasps made me fight with my slight phobia of these insects. Doable, though.

Hume’s Passions — What a (pleasant!) surprise: the importance of physical exercise in the middle of a philosophy treaty. 😊

Hume’s Passions: Athletic Beauty

On the attractiveness of beautiful, athletic bodies.

Laid off the strength work for the last month. Knee twinge and misc life chaos. Today I was able to come back and knock out 100 KB swings @ 24kg without trouble. Do that 6z/wk for a few weeks and crank up to 32kg after that, woo.

Contemplating the requirements for doing a half marathon in September.

Whoof, the 32kg kb is definitely on my strength edge. 1h swing eh, 2h swing doable. Deadlift fine. Squats, eh. Press NO. Snatch NO. Carries will be a good challenge.

Have to dig for more 2h moves and focus on mastery of the 24kg.
