Perseverance Photobombed by a Passing Dust Devil

On May 10th, while striking a selfie to mark its 1,500th day on Mars, NASA’s Perseverance Rover got an unexpected guest star—a towering dust devil swirling in the distance photobombed the shot. The rover was on Witch Hazel Hill, an area on the rim of Jezero Crater that it has been exploring for the last 5 months. The dust devil on the other hand was sneaking into the background from a distance of 5 km away. The selfie image was made up of 59 separate photos taken by the rover using its WATSON camera.

Attached: 2 images The moon and Mercury made a pretty pairing after sunset last night. Mercury is between the trees about dead center horizontally, a third of the way up the picture vertically. Might have to zoom in a bit if you're looking on a phone. We even got a bonus right before we packed up as an owl decided to perch on one of the high tree branches, as seen as a silhouette on top of the tree on the right in the second shot. #astrophotography #astronomy #moon #mercury @[email protected]
