#TheSpinners aka #TheDetroitSpinners - "One of a Kind (Love Affair)" 1976
#PhilippeWynne brought a kind of ecstatic joy to his gospel-influenced performances - I could watch him go through these steps all day long. RIP.

Thankfully I don't . . . but if I had to? I'd choose #PhilippéWynne as my all-time favourite soul singer. He died way too soon, but his gospel-influenced work with #TheSpinners ("Rubberband Man", "One of a Kind (Love Affair)", "Love Don't Love Nobody") stands with the very best popular r&b singing ever committed to tape. He also appeared on #Funkadelic's classic "(Not Just) Knee Deep", and turned in this brilliant & overlooked 1981 cameo with #GeneDunlap. Can't be sure he's actually using #falsetto here, but it doesn't matter: his high notes will always ring out somewhere in the back of my mind.
