MPPP was an opioid synthesized in 1947. Due to difficulty acquiring heroin at the time, Barry Kidston read the MPPP paper in 1976 and tried to synthesize it, but it had MPTP impurity 😱

He presented with Parkinsonian symptoms, was treated, but died of an overdose. Autopsy revealed loss of SN DA neurons. NIMH found MPTP in his lab.

The #FDA just approved Veozah (fezolinetant) for the treatment of moderate to severe hot flashes caused by #menopause.

The drug is a neurokinin 3 (NK3) receptor antagonist, the first to be approved by the FDA for hot flashes. The NK3 receptor plays a role in regulating body temperature.
