Since I've been talking about Phantasy Star a lot lately, I figured I'd take a quick photo of my collection. I love this series.
@ernestoDuracelli I might try PSO2 out of curiosity some day, but yeah. I think for now I'll dive into some PSO1.
Hey. I fucking love the Phantasy Star series. Like... OG, Online, Universe... There's just something about it I love.
That said, I also hate the possibility of losing access to games. With PSOBB I at least can host my own server.
I know I can't do that with PSO2.... So I've avoided it entirely.
Is it worth giving a shot?
Just installed Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom on my 3DS.
Except I guess it's PSIII: Successors of Time, since the retranslation also restored the Japanese subtitle, for some reason.
Won't be playing it immediately, but now it'll be ready when *I* am.

It really does, and what's funny is that nobody ever meaningfully talks about the enemy designs in #PhantasyStar Ⅲ at all except in the context of being angry that they're only given two or three frames of animation (which is still more animation frames than Final Fantasy enemies had, but I guess Phantasy Star, having built its reputation in part on its high-quality animation, gets held to a higher standard).
I remember that back in the nineties there was this Phantasy Star fan website (I think just called "The Phantasy Star Homepage"?) which had compiled some of the most rigorous annotation online at the time for beating the other three games, but the site owner had given up on compiling the same for PSⅢ by the first cave dungeon because they were *so disgusted* with how dumb the Grinder enemy looked and the fact that its attack animation just wiggles its ears.
But all the enemies in the game are creative, fascinatingly impressionistic, for the most part placed evocatively
