Palantir Technologies has condemned London Mayor Sadiq Khan for halting a £50 million contract that would have expanded the Metropolitan Police’s use of the firm’s AI‑driven software for analysing criminal intelligence, warning that the decision “politicises procurement” and could compromise public safety. The mayor’s office blocked the deal after finding a “clear and serious breach” of procurement rules, arguing the tender process unfairly favoured Palantir and denied rival firms a genuine chance to compete. Palantir’s UK head Louis Mosley’s remarks linking the move to concerns about police‑officer misconduct drew sharp rebuke from Labour MP Stella Creasy, while the controversy revived scrutiny of Palantir’s wider work with the Israeli military, U.S. immigration‑enforcement programmes, the NHS and the Ministry of Defence. The Metropolitan Police expressed disappointment, saying the lack of new technology hampers modernisation amid financial strain, even as earlier, smaller Palantir projects drew “big‑brother” criticism from police unions. Government figures split on the issue: Business Secretary Peter Kyle praised Palantir’s unique capabilities, whereas MPs such as Rosena Allin‑Khan and Clive Lewis backed the mayor, insisting that public trust and city values must outweigh corporate interests.

BBC News | Palantir accuses Sadiq Khan of 'putting politics over public safety' after £50m Met deal blocked

London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan has blocked a £50 million contract that would have let the Metropolitan Police use US tech firm Palantir’s artificial‑intelligence software, arguing the deal raises ethical concerns and may not offer value for money. Palantir’s UK chief Louis Mosley warned that rejecting the technology would “give hostile states and criminals an advantage” and hamper front‑line policing, especially as the force faces officer cuts. The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime said Palantir was the only supplier the Met seriously considered and that the police had failed to submit a proper procurement strategy, a breach of procedure, while also questioning whether the £25 million‑per‑year cost could be met without undue pressure on other budgets. The dispute highlights a broader debate over the balance between political/ethical considerations and public‑safety needs in police procurement.

London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan has halted a £50 million contract that would have allowed the Metropolitan Police to use US‑based AI firm Palantir’s software to speed up investigations, sparking criticism from Palantir UK chief Louis Mosley, who warned that the decision “gives hostile states and criminals an advantage” and could force the Met to cut officer numbers. The mayor’s office, citing concerns about value for money and ethical considerations, accused the police of breaching procurement rules by not presenting a strategy for approval, while the Business Secretary called for more British AI solutions. The dispute centers on the £25 million‑per‑year cost, which rose from an initial £15‑25 million estimate, and reflects a broader clash between political priorities and perceived public‑safety needs.

Had a sight test yesterday - same optician I've used for c20 years. "Can we have your NHSNo?" Yes, why? "NHS wants to make sure we use it on any referrals." (This was policy 20 years ago, are they only now catching up?) "Have you got anything to prove you're over 60? Driving Licence?" I just gave you my NHS number. "For your free sight test" No, my parent has glaucoma put me down under that.
Next time they ask for my date of birth I'll start making stuff up.

Trade Minister a member of Friends of Israel
Peter Kyle declines to answer any questions
March 2026
The Rt Hon Peter Kyle MP is the Secretary of State for Business and Trade and in the interview clip below, he is repeatedly asked why he has not declared his membership of the Labour Friends of Israel group. As the interviewer points out, his is the key ministerial position when it comes to arms exports and yet he is a supporter of one of the warring parties. The Register of Interests makes no mention of this membership [accessed 27 March].
He is but one of a large number of members of this powerful and well-funded lobby organisation. It must be questioned whether it is appropriate for a minister to a) be a member in the first place and b) why he has not declared it. His voting record displays a distinct pro-Israel and ‘anti-Palestinian’ stance according to the MP War Crimes web site. Further background is provided on the CAAT site.
As we have noted on several occasions before, the Salisbury MP, Mr John Glen is also a member, indeed a ‘proud member’ of the Conservative version of the lobby group and the same site lists his voting record.
It is reported today (27th March) that it is not safe for anyone in Beirut due to Israeli bombing. Israel is engaged in a plan to clear most of Lebanon up to the Litani river. Human Rights Watch have reported that Israel is using white phosphorous in southern Lebanon providing compelling evidence. The use of this weapon which causes severe injuries, is banned under International Humanitarian law in cases where there are civilians. The IDF claim they are: “currently unaware and cannot confirm use of shells that contain white phosphorous in Lebanon as claimed. The IDF did not watch the visuals supposedly relied on by Human Rights Watch in making its claims, and therefore cannot currently comment on them.”
