@agowa338 @JenMsft #2 is extra annoying and propably wasted MILLIONS of #TechSupport #PersonnelHours because on #Unix-esque systems that shit doesn't really happen, but on #Windows this is a known wrongness since at least #WindowsNT 3.51…

Just fyi @[email protected] just got reminded of a funny quirk in windows explorer: When you create a shortcut to e.g. your homedrive on the desktop. Then at next login you do so without network connectivity (e.g. windows doesn't automatically connect it) followed by clicking on that shortcut it causes two things: 1) Windows will automatically connect the homedrive now. 2) Windows claims the link is invalid as the homedrive does not exist and asks to delete it (despite it just now auto reconnecting it).

For example, the [former] Chief of Police in #Köln (#Cologne) advocated for abolishing #NonviolentDrugOffenses from criminal code (namely, minor amounts of #Cannabis [#Weed and #Hash]) because the mandate to press charges got police officers to waste time reporting #drug #users / #consumers, knowing any minor amount [ <20g ] would get tossed by prosecutors entirely and even at repeat offenders only result in a fine.

  • Which is #PersonnelHours wasted to actually work on real #crime (and i.e. go after burglars, carjackers, and armed robbers) than 'busting' that same person self-medicating because they can't afford prescription weed at moonrock prices nor find a doctor to prescribe.

(This was in the late 2010s BTW!)

Personally, I'd want to see the "#PortugueseModel" of #decriminalization and #care towards #DrugUsers and #addicts because the only way to exercise #PublicHealth, #YouthProtection and #ConsumerProtection standards is by having a "bright field" where #regulation is possible.

Personally if I was @Bundesregierung I'd order @AuswaertigesAmt & @bamf to basically rubberstamp any #trans and #nonbinary person to enter #Germany as I expect sooner or later a similar precedent to #ECHR decision re: #Women fleeing #Afghanistan under the #Taliban, that verifying someone to 'be a #US citizen and not cis and/or binary' should be enough to grant #asylum and #protections without any further hesitation.

  • I mean, all that #BAMF is doing by not simply doing so is wasting #PersonnelHours and creating #costs because people defending their case successfully will have the state pay the legal expenses...

@koakuma @techokami also #UltraSparcT2 as cool as it was at release (including dual 10Gbit-NICs and hardware RNG on die) has a lot of things noone would want to deal with in 2024 (i.e. DDR2-FBDIMMs).

  • Plus #RISCv unlike #SPARCv9 amd #OpenPOWER was designed on a clean slate in academia by people who had dealt with #RISC & #CISC architectures and needed something #OpenSource as they can't just violate NDAs nilly-willy for teaching.

Pretty shure @stman could write an entire curriculum on why #SPARC, #PowerPC, #s390x and even #ARM / #ARM64 should not be pursued and why #mc68k died alongside the unfixable-by-design mess that is #ix86 & #amd64.

  • Plus RISCv's ISA has been an #OpenStandard from the get go, whereas the efforts by #Oracle nee #Sun and #IBM were mostly done in reaction to it and to keep the few invested licensees and co-designers onboard and not drop the platform entirely...

Look, I'd love to get my hands on some Sun SPARC Hardware but aside from making my room hot and noisy there isn't much to justify blowing likely over half a Euro per hour (electricity price: € 0,40/kWh) just to have it up and running, as compared to a #PiCluster like those @geerlingguy had built multiple times are more practical.

  • For comparison: It's like driving a 2011 Ford CVPI-71 with a 11,9l SONNY'S SAR-729 engine for commuting from Leverkusen to Köln when there's ample of affordable, reliable and fast public transport that gets me faster from Opladen to Deutz than it takes to drive up the 15th deck of a parking garage just to find a spot to park that 5,7m long street yacht where one can climb out of it from the doors and not the trunk!

And that's just bottom-billing, low-cost ARM SoC tech designed for a price tag (to the point that until the #Pi5 they neither included a power button nor #RTC onboard!

  • OFC RISC-V is still 5-25+ years behind #ARMv9 solely based off #patents, #budget and #PersonnelHours invested in it, so it's barely getting on-par with 10-20yr old ARM devices in terms.of power and support.

@gmr_leon I think #modders & #players should be allowed to bill #Bethesda for their #labour invested in their already paid product.

Like this:

But if we did so, all the #GAFAMs would've to file for bankrupcy due zo lack of assets to pay for that.

And yes, I mean that as I said: #Microsoft should be forced to pay for the #PersonnelHours and cost of #Downtime caused by their #BinaryTrash!

#Fact: even the most expensive tier of #support #licensing for #RHEL, #SLED & #Ubuntu LTS combined is far cheaper than #Windows ifwe account for the total platform cost in terms of #Backups, #Support & #PersonnelHours needed for #Windows.

And don't even get me started on #Downtime when dealing with #Microsoft's #Govware!
