Can you treat a narcissist? | The-14

Can narcissists change? Therapy may help manage traits, but progress is slow and requires patience, skill, and a strong therapist–patient rapport.

@Lazarou i am a victim of sexual abuse from the age of 15, & domestic abuse from age 2. i have lived with the consequences for 50 years now, & most perpetrators haven't been held to account. either because they were strangers, i couldn't deal with reporting it or because i forgave them.

now i am disabled because of the traumas. and i am being treated like a fucking criminal, a weirdo, an outcast, a danger & a scrounger.
and yes i am mentally ill. without meaningful help to actually try recover.

but i will not judge this man because i bet he's just as much a victim as i am. he's not behaving this way for no reason, or bc he's 'just born evil'.
he has generations of family before him surviving #patriarchy, #capitalism & #hierarchy in this #ClassWar system of death. his ancestors were ignorant of #lifesciences as they were probably too busy surviving like most of us.
i bet this man has #NPD or #psychopathy. those are the most complex & difficult to treat #PersonalityDisorders. hence why there's no public funding for treatment, let alone #education.
it's mostly passed on from generation to generation through trauma from #DomesticAbuse.

ppl like him are the end result of some sort of generational trauma in his family. if nobody is talking about dealing with that, you're part of the problem.
cause the more ppl like me & him are judged evil & treated like criminals, the more kids will end up like us.
you need to point your finger at ppl in authority & your self.
and i am not talking to you personally @Lazarou, just our audience here.
we all carry responsibility to stop this slow-moving pandemic by educating your self & others, organising & resisting the status quo collectively.

Hello Mastodon! πŸ‘‹

My name is Delilah. (it's my online alias, not a legal name). I am a psychologist and youth counselor, and I mostly work with people suffering from personality disorders, eating disorders, and ASD/ADHD/ADD.

I have had teenage patients as well as adults and even families. In my career I even worked at schools but ended up abandoning that path due to constant defunding, where I no longer could help people without struggling to pay bills.

I will be posting mostly about how mental disorders work and to share some information about them. However I want to make it clear, that what I post should never be a substitute for actual medical consultation, and that I will not do therapy on social media.
I want to keep myself somewhat anonymous to not reveal my real-life identity, and to of course respect privacy laws related to my profession.

Outside of that, I like to keep myself up to date with technology and privacy, as it affects our mental health no matter how much we tend to deny this. I'm a cat mom of two, and love to tend to my mini-garden of vegetables.

I am not from USA, and English is not my first language, so please excuse my mistakes. I also ask to respect my privacy and be kind!

Looking forward to meeting new friends, and hopefully there are some profession peers on Mastodon?
